Home

Got home at 5pm. Realised had left keys at work. Went back to work. Got home at 6:35pm. Pissed off? Me?

More4 were speaking to me today about going on their news programme and talking about Blunkett and how the blindness thing fits in to the story. I spoke with the researcher, they got back and said they may well do it and could I come in to the studio. I got so unbelievably stupidly nervous though. Honestly. I've done so many interviews to camera, I've done so much live radio work ... but live tv is soemthing I've never done before and it really really stressed me! Whetehr they thought I was the perfect contributor or not got rather lost to the fact that the story moved on and Hillary Benn was quickly appointed to replaced the second coming of David Blunkett.

One more disability role model toppled today. There's so few around.

[update] Oh events overtook me too. rumours earlier said Hillary Benn would be taking over from Blunkett, it seems some other geezer has got it instead. Disabled peple are probably a little safer in their beds tonight I'd venture to suggest. Oh that refers to Blunkett having gone, not Hilary Benn who I rather like.

Hi damon, Well done for coping with that live TV interview! Blimey! That sounded like you were nervous, but bet you're glad you coped with it alright. Such is a life of a disability website editor! And the best one there is too!

Hope you and the team enjoyed my email for Ouchvember!

Any way of seeing your interview debut, Damon? I'd love to see it because I haven't got More4!

Sure you've done a great job. Do you know that even live interpreting on TV is much better paid than interpreting when it is recorded and broadcasted later (meaning you can rewind and have a scond go)? Well, I assume they are not doing that for no reason and being a bit nervous seems perfectly allright!

hang on. Didn't I write this very well or something? I didn't do the interview in the end. I'm off to re-read what I wrote.

Katie - you don't really want more Ouch goodies do you? We gave you loads! ;)

Well, blame it on my bad English! I thought "stressed me" was referring to something that actually has happened and as the interview stressed you I might have thought it has happened as well. Sorry!
It is a shame I wasn't at your front door, when you discovered you had no keys. In my last post on my blog I have complained about not being able to swear in English. I suppose I might have got a bit of really good coaching at your doorstep....

I was meaning for the charity I work for! Ha! Ha!

I thought Ouch and my charity could do a networking idea!

A partnership between two places that help disabled people!

What do you think? Please!
Have I ever said to you you're a nice person who I get on well with?

*begging!*

If I ever met you again, I'd buy you a drink mate!

Damon, is there any link at all between gout and alcohol intake, or is that a total myth nasty people make up? Why am I even bothering to ask? well, only because I am sinking a few red wines in quick succession and was wondering, that's all. I thought you would be the man to ask.

soutpaw person ... yeah alcohol apparently doesn't help. It's all about the purines apparently. Alcohol, bacon, beans, meat, marmite, oily fish, some even say cauliflower all have high levels of purines.

Gout is caused because purines brek down into uric acid. The Gout sufferers have an inability to expell uric acid properly.

I had quite a bit of alcohol this last weekend tho. Call it a controlled test, if you will.

My doctor says that food intake barely has any influence on gout. drugs is the answer ... diet will do little.

Julia and Blogging mone ... I didn't appear on More4 News in the end! They chased me for a few hours then the story moved on to being more about the fact that there was a new minister, less about Blunkett and his blindness ... hence they dropped the idea of having me on the show. As I said, I'd got stupidly nervous about it all and was rather glad. Why why why? Not normally like that. I think it's because it was the news and it was live and they wanted deep meaningful answers.

Bloggingmone ... I'm sure some of us here can help you swear in English. What might you want to say?

Hi Damon, Southpaw has left a comment on my blog and corrected a mistake I have made for the last 20 years or so and has given an introduction into posh swearing. I suppose English is the one and only language in which it is possible to still be posh while you are swearing....
One situation where I was completely running out of useful vocabulary was during a meeting when someone notoriously kept interrupting people for no reason at all and got quite offensive. I really wanted to say something very nasty and unfriendly to make him shut up and gave up after having browsed my brain with no result. Help!
Second: is there a good replacement for the well known (even to me) f*** word? Just in case you feel tempted to use it more than three times in one sentence?

Thanks, Damon. Sorry if my question seemed a bit rude, I was feeling a bit paranoid about posting on blogs. I find it really difficult. Anyway, the nearest I've experienced to gout was when I had severe oedema all over, both pregnancies and I just swelled up all over and didn't get my own shape back for a good year after my second child. Not nice, very uncomfortable. Haven't heard much from you lately, hope you're ok.

Jacqui.

bm, do I reply to you here, or on your blog? I'll do it here (Damon, sorry , just put the kettle on, we won't take up too much of your blog!)

I've had a rethink and maybe posh swearing is just real swearing in a posh voice?

The other day I got someone who kept interrupting me in a meeting. She only interrupted me, though. After a few times, I stopped every time she spoke and then said 'no, after you, PLEASE go on" ...then finally I just stopped mid word, anticipating her interruption. The room went totally silent and she finally got the message!

Here's another test. Trying to get this login thing working properly so I can actually post a full blog entry.
